-Tuk Tuk from Nong Khai to Passport photo shop and on to Thai-Laos border: 15 minutes, 100 baht for photos, 50 baht for tuk-tuk ride
-Stop at Thai Passport Immigration Office to find out we overstayed our Thai visa by one day, have to pay a fine: 500 baht each.

-Arrive at Laos Visa Office, apply for ‘on arrival visa’: lots of waiting and 1500 baht.
-Bus from border into capital of Laos, Vientiane: 30-45 minutes, free (we somehow snuck our way onto a tour bus and didn’t end up having to pay)
-Tuk Tuk from center of Vientiane to our Guesthouse: 20,000 kip (Lao currency), arrive at 10AM
In Total… Getting from Chiang Mai, Thailand to Vientiane, Laos:
Distance: 699 km (434 miles)
Cost: 2,918 baht per person ($96 dollars)
Duration: 14 hours
We can’t wait to start exploring Laos. However, since we’ve made it here in once piece, and sleeping on a bus is virtually impossible, we’re off to waste most of the day in bed sleeping.
