After we honeymooned it up in the Philippines, we hopped on a few planes and arrived in Sri Lanka. Daniel was there a few years ago filming a documentary and had plenty of reasons to go back and show me around. We spent Christmas in Colombo, the capital, and the town came alive with people on the beach celebrating.
Highlights from our week in Sri Lanka include:
- EATING – Sri Lankan food is some of our favorite in the whole world. One of the best meals we’ve ever had was at Ministry of Crab in Colombo. The crab curry is…otherworldly.
- SIGIRIYA – A former monastery turned palace by King Kasyapa in the 5th century and one of the best preserved examples of ancient urban planning. We took a steep and spiritual journey up the rock at dawn to discover some pretty incredible views.
- THE TRAIN – Taking the train up into the tea-lined hills of Sri Lanka is said to be one of the most beautiful train rides in the world, and we have to agree.
- WORLD’S END – We hiked up to this vista in Nuwara Eliya, and one clumsy slip of the foot could definitely end your world. It’s a steep, lush and stunning view.
